  • Sara S.Ihab did a great job clearing my overgrown backyard, including filling up five large bags with weeds and dead shrubs. I’d definitely hire him again.Gardening
  • Lizz P.Sami did well, but do be cautious with him. Communication, and following TaskRabbit policies is important... Sami did well on my task, which was to pick up a bunch of dog poop from my backyard and mow the lawn. I was pretty surprised that Sami started with mowing instead of starting with picking up the poop first--so the poop doesn't get in their lawn mower--but I figured "he knows what he's doing and doesn't need me to micromanage". He originally quoted me 3 hours for the job and was very quick. Showed up at 2:45pm for an arrival time of 2:30-3pm, and was done at 4:15pm (exactly 1.5 hours later). Because it didn't take the full 3 hours, and because I thought TaskRabbit doesnt charge for partial hours (I know now that Taskers can charge in 15-min increments), I verbally offered to pay for 2 hours of work. I planned to additionally tip and give 5 stars for prompt communication and I appreciated him doing the work fast, rather than trying to stretch out the work to the initial 3-hr quoted timeframe. Sami nodded and agreed verbally to the 2 hours. However, at 5:30pm that evening, Sami finally marked the task as complete, so I was still charged for 3 hours of work. I used the chat to ask if he could please adjust the time worked to the agreed upon 2 hours. He said I agreed to be charged for 3 hours when I accepted him as my Tasker. This is when I realized Sami might have just "smile and nod"ed when he agreed to things in person with me. (I had a feeling there was a language miscommunication, but he said "yes" so I wasn't going to double question.) I did some research and found that it is a violation of TaskRabbit policy to charge for unworked time, and violators may have action taken against them. Sami finally agreed to adjust the time worked but a few days later, the initial deposit (1 hour) and additional (2 hours) transactions posted on my credit card and now the chat feature has been disabled (because the Task is complete). So I reached out to TaskRabbit customer service and was refunded for 1.5 hours. Now I'm leaving this 5-star review (because reviews dictate Taskers' livelihood, and he *did* complete the Task). I just wish he had been clear with me if he didn't understand me in person, and that he hadn't been trying to take advantage of unworked time. (Makes me wonder how many others he's done it to.) As long as he doesn't overcharge, and is clear about whether or not specific requests/requirements need to be translated for clarity's sake, I recommend Sami as your Tasker. Because there was so much dog poop and I am healing from a medical condition, his high price was worth it to me. (And it probably wouldn't have been such a big deal charging me for unworked time if his hourly rate wasn't literally the highest rate. I assumed that meant he was reliable, honest, and would provide quality work.) However, it probably wasn't worth it for Sami because he either didn't believe me or didn't understand when I told him in person just how much dog poop there would be. That it could be hiding anywhere in the very tall grass. A "land mine" of dog poop, I told him. Mowing first was not the best idea, but I didn't want to micromanage him and tell him how to do the task. I figured he knew what he was doing. It didn't occur to me that he didn't understand me. I wish he had asked for clarification or for written instructions if he needed a more clear translation.Gardening
