  • Sarah A.Joe was great-good communication and very skilled at the electrical work. I would definitely hire him again! Handyman
  • David F.Jon was great. Nice guy and thorough. Handyman
  • LaShawnda J.Short version: The end result is good. It looks how I want it to look and was essentially re-installed as I outlined. The length of time it took is egregious. Long version: I estimated an hour to re-install my microwave. I think someone really familiar with microwave installs could have corrected this install in about 30-45 min. Someone less familiar, perhaps 90 min. He took three hours and 15 minutes. Completely milked the clock. I missed an hour of work during peak time. I'm a gig worker, too. So, on top of overpaying, I also lost income. The original installer was also the delivery person for this new appliance. Implied expertise. He was in my house for maybe 4.5 hrs. He installed the microwave (incorrectly but well enough to save a lot of time during correction), the stove, and fixed my stuck freezer drawer door on my fridge. The freezer drawer repair required him removing the rail system - dissembling and reassembling it in order to get the drawer to open and close again. He also looked at a sliding cabinet door that was off track. He did all that and my only complaint was the wonkiness of the microwave install. It had a 2.5 inch gap from the top cabinet and it required a bumpout to clear the depth of the side cabinets. I didn't know about the bumpout at the time; he clearly didn't either. Without the bumpout, I could not open the microwave door without opening the cabinet door. I shared the bumpout issue with the Darren in chat and visually when he arrived. I cut two 2x4s the width of the microwave and drywall to cover the gap in order to create a two inch bumpout to clear the depth of the cabinets. I explained what the wood and drywall were for and why they were needed. He either wasn't listening to me or didn't understand what I was saying. He kept saying I was thinking too much or too worried and just needed to trust him, he knew what he was doing. Very condescending and dismissive. All that was necessary was taking the microwave down (unscrew two screws from the top); remove the bracket on the wall; screw the 2 2x4s into the wall on studs horizontally; attach the drywall over the 2x4s; reattach the bracket to bottom 2x4; reattach microwave to bracket and drill new holes for top screws 2 inches forward of the prior holes. Effectively moving the microwave two inches up and two inches out. The only reason I didn't do this myself is because I don't have the strength to hold the microwave over my head or with one hand while screwing it in. I shared this info as well and made myself available to work with him on the task. An hour and a half into the task, we had to backtrack due to the bracket being too high on the wall. He had to take down the microwave (it was tossed up and pulled down many times before we got it to fit correctly - it now has visible dents); remove the bracket again, remove the drywall and reposition the bottom 2x4 down a bit. It turned out he had marked the line correctly but had screwed the 2x4 a quarter of an inch above the line he marked. That 1/4 of an inch and the thick cord prevented the microwave from tilting fully back. He chose to blame me. Began arguing. Said I made him second guess himself. He had told me he knew what he was doing and he should have just done what he knew to do. Then he said, "If I ignore you, don't take it personally." This review should make it clear I absolutely took that comment and his dismissive treatment of me personally. I repeated that his marking had been correct. Arguing about blame wasn't necessary when the work still needed to be done. My work timer went off 15 min before I needed to leave the house. I told him what it was. He said he won't be finished in 15min. I told him to do what he can. He took another hour. After the bumpout was already installed and corrected. Which means all that needed to be done was lifting the microwave and screwing it in. Measurements were off so I now have many holes in the bottom of my top cabinet from the attempts to screw into the top of the microwave. I also now have dents in the back of my new microwave (delivered Jan 8). He was setting it down on the cast iron range grates and a bed of screws. The microwave was laid on its back and it's side on this rough surface many times. I made a comment about him tossing it around like it's nothing. He assured me a few times that he's insured. What does that mean for my dented microwave? I'm working on a gut renovation. I have been my primary laborer for three years. I fully gutted the house with one other person. Aside from electrical, plumbing, hvac and the first two rooms of ceilings, I have I rebuilt this house on my own. When I seek help for the things I'm not confident doing, I have a good idea of what's needed. Thus was not a 3 hour job. Had he said the things he said and finished in 90 min, I wouldn't have left a review. But being charged three times his fee and three times Taskrabbit's additional service fee is extremely offensive on top of his verbal dismissiveness of my concern for my property and the work being done on it. I've used Taskrabbit several times in the past in other cities. Between their additional fees and this service, I will delete the app and not return.Handyman
