Tasker Spotlight: Greg S.

Introducing Tasker Greg S., our first Tasker Spotlight from the UK! We went all the way across the pond to London to get to know Greg a little bit better and see how his tasking journey has played out while he works on plays as an actor. (See what we did there?)

How Did You First Hear About Taskrabbit?

Greg first heard about Taskrabbit through a friend. “I’m an actor and we were working on a play together, sharing a room whilst on tour. I was complaining about how bartending was really wiping me out.”

His friend mentioned they worked with their dad refurbishing office buildings and when finished, they used an app called Taskrabbit to hire people to put together the office furniture.

“I was like, ‘I can definitely do that’. So I got in touch with Taskrabbit, filled in a few forms and started working through the app assembling furniture.”

What Keeps You Interested in Tasking?

Greg loves the variety that Taskrabbit offers, with no single day, or hour, being the same.

“I’m not someone who would be happy sitting in an office, doing basically the same thing all day every day. Working with Taskrabbit takes me all across London, meeting interesting people (and some truly amazing pets) doing all different kinds of jobs.”

He also appreciates the close connections and friendships he’s made through tasking over the years.

“You never really know what you’re stepping into and occasionally you can end up working for the same people or families, even the same friendship groups for years and you can really make a genuine connection with people.”

Can You Share How You’ve Built Your Business Using the Taskrabbit Platform?

Building your business is a major key to success as a Tasker on Taskrabbit. It’s also important to get positive feedback and reviews over time so you can gain more demand and clients.

“When you’re starting out you need to keep your prices reasonable. Before you leave you can explain that you’re just starting out and that a positive review would really go a long way to helping you succeed. When you start building up positive reviews then you can gradually increase your price and balance that with demand so that you’re making decent money over an extended period.

“I would just add that honesty and communication with your clients are the most important thing when building good rapport with your clients and that’s what leads to good reviews.”

Describe How Taskrabbit Has Impacted Your Life

“Working through Taskrabbit really has changed my life. Firstly the money is ridiculously good compared to working in hospitality, which is what I was doing to support myself and my acting career before now.”

The flexibility of being his own boss also helps with balancing being a working actor.

“Not only is the money much better, but the hours are so much more hospitable to working as an actor. When auditions come in my schedule is flexible enough for me to not have to turn anything down and I can be so much more rested and prepared than I was when arriving home at 5 or 6 am whilst working in cocktail bars.”

Being a Tasker has even allowed Greg to save enough money to put a deposit down with the government’s Help-To-Buy scheme to own a home, while also enabling him to place his toddler in nursery full time.

“We really would have struggled over the last few years if I hadn’t been making the money that I’ve been making through Taskrabbit. I would probably have had to give up acting temporarily just to put food on our plates, but thanks to Taskrabbit, that hasn’t been the case.”

What Are Your Top 3 Tasking Experiences?

Greg’s top experiences through Taskrabbit have always revolved around meeting interesting people.

“I’ve worked a few times for the actor Joseph Quinn, who plays Eddie Munson in Stranger Things, so he’s had some interesting stories to tell.”

Another interesting tasking experience had him even learning a new skill.

“One of my regular clients when I first started tasking had a wool business and employed me to ‘Card’ wool for her—this is the process of taking the washed wool and ‘Carding’ it together before it gets spun. I learnt a lot about the process of wool making and as the job was done sitting in her sitting room for hours and sometimes days on end, we became quite close and I really enjoyed her company.”

He’s also met clients who’ve rubbed elbows with royalty.

“Another of my regular clients for a while was the daughter of a Saudi government minister and counted Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher amongst her personal friends. She was also quite a high profile author and a truly captivating person to spend time with.”

If You Could Do a Task for Anyone…

For Greg, tasking has always been about business and being able to make a living while supporting his family and acting career.

“If I could work for anyone, selfishly it would have to be either a high profile director like Sam Mandes or Shane Meadows or a great casting director like Nina Gold. I could build them an amazing wardrobe really quickly to an impeccable standard and then be like, ‘You think that’s good, you should see me act,’ then I bust out my best monologue and they immediately make me a star in their next major blockbuster film. Then I’d have to balance superstardom with helping out my old clients!”

What Excites You Most in Life Outside of Tasking?

“I tend to play 5-a-side most Thursday nights and I ride my bike between jobs for work, which I really enjoy, and which helps to keep me fit and clear my mind.”

If you’re in London, be sure to book Greg S.! Hiring a Tasker will not only change your life, but also theirs—especially when you hire one who loves to stay busy and make great connections.
