International Women’s Day 2023: Highlighting Fearless Female Taskers

International Women's Day

In a world full of handymen, women are often glossed over—sometimes by others writing them off and sometimes by discounting their own ability to complete jobs traditionally done by men.

We’re all encouraged to embrace equity for this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8. Everyone has different circumstances, and one person might need different opportunities to reach the same outcome as someone else.

So what does that mean for Taskers? With the dominance of men in the field, it’s clear that women entering into a line of work like tasking can benefit from a little extra encouragement to get started. That’s why we want to highlight female Taskers who are thriving on the platform for this year’s International Women’s Day. The women in your life are just as qualified to become Taskers as the guys.

Women are supporting themselves, funding their dreams, and building flexible lifestyles as Taskers, and the stories below are proof.

Traveling the World by Becoming a Tasker

How long have you been a Tasker?

I became a Tasker in 2017 after a friend told me about it earlier that year. We were all sitting by the fire, and my friend started talking about how people can be paid to build IKEA furniture – and I actually enjoy building it and was in need of a better income. SOLD, I joined immediately.

What’s your favorite part of being a Tasker?

I’ve been able to afford to take myself on solo trips around the world and have the peace of mind that I will have work when I get back! Greece, France, Morocco, and Spain – just to name a few!

If you could do a task anywhere, for anyone, who would it be?

I would LOVE to organize the White House because I love a good secret.

How did you first hear about Taskrabbit?

I was a personal assistant for millionaires and billionaires, and my friend told me that I should join Taskrabbit because it’s pretty much the same thing, only I could do that on my off time to make extra money.

How has Taskrabbit impacted your life?

It allowed me to travel to various countries and pursue my documentary. I would’ve never had the time to do everything I did if I had a traditional 9 to 5 job.

If you could do a task anywhere, for anyone, who would it be?

Oprah in her Hawaii estate because she is my idol. She inspired so many people, and she’s such a good woman. I would love to see what being around her feels like and to just meet her.

How has Taskrabbit impacted your life?

The opportunity of tasking, especially yard work, opened my eyes to huge opportunities to help build and create my own business. It helped me maintain my self-employment and generate a great source of much-needed income.

What’s one of your most memorable tasks?

Working with so many elderly clients unable to complete their gardening work due to a variety of different health conditions helped me feel like I was making an impact for those in need.

If you could do a task anywhere, for anyone, who would it be?

My late grandmother, she loved gardening ❤️

Exploring Manhattan through Tasking

What keeps you interested in tasking on the Taskrabbit platform? How is it different?

The best is the flexibility and the idea that every day is different with unique people and new task challenges. I love to travel; I have probably been in a building on every block of Manhattan!

Can you share how you’ve built your business using the Taskrabbit platform? For example, how do you market yourself and your services?

If I am hired as a Personal Assistant, I will upsell myself. “I noticed you could use some organizational storage in your kitchen.” or “Would you like me to drop off your package at FedEx?”

What’s one of your most memorable tasking experiences?

A client is a very good friend of mine now. We have done everything together. Gardening, swapping her bedroom with her living room, ordering new furniture, cleaning, dog sitting, and even paying bills.

Sarah and Silvia
Joining Forces as Handywomen in Milan

How did you find out about Taskrabbit and why did you sign up?

Silvia: I discovered Taskrabbit, because on my birthday, March 25, an online advertisement for the platform appeared. I took it as a gift, and since we were in a pandemic, I immediately took the opportunity to get busy, because I didn’t want to be sad about restaurants’ closure, as I am a owner of one.

Sarah: I learned about Taskrabbit on Silvia’s birthday while we were in lockdown. Since the restaurant was closed we were not working, so we immediately decided to sign up given our passions.

What does an average day look like for you?

Sarah: The day starts early, because we have to finish the tasks to arrive in time for the restaurant service. Once the shift is over, it’s back to task in the afternoon, but not too late because we like to be home in the evening!

Have you ever faced challenges as a female handyperson?

Silvia: Yes, every task is a challenge! Even the simplest of cabinets can become a nightmare if you lose focus. Clearly for us, the biggest challenges are those where we have to make up for physical strength with cunning. When we make big cabinets, we have developed our own technique, different from what our male colleagues use. But we arrive at the same result! We are meticulous, calm, we laugh with customers, and we don’t mind doing the heaviest jobs…girl power!
