Biggest Home Turnoffs: When Love Isn’t In the Air

Forget to make a Valentine’s Day dinner reservation? Flying solo this year? Either way, staying in for a cozy, candlelit night can be just as nice. But there are a few things that might kill the mood. We asked people across the globe what turns them off so you can avoid killing the vibe this Valentine’s Day.

Top 10 Biggest Home Turn Offs

A little clutter is unlikely to kill the mood, but here’s what might, according to our survey respondents:

  1. Bad smells. You might be used to the smell of the litter box, but not everyone who comes over is.
  2. Old/moldy food lying around the house. The smells, the bugs, the mysterious mold. Throwing away old food is a must.
  3. Blocked toilet. Not a big shock here.
  4. Stained bedsheets. Don’t give anyone the chance to wonder where those stains came from.
  5. Dirty bathroom. It’s just one of those things that gross people out.
  6. Overflowing garbage or trash left out. It’s trash, so that makes sense.
  7. Smelly/dirty towels. Using a towel after washing up only to realize it’s dirtier than you were before you showered is a definite mood killer.
  8. Dirty surfaces. Dust and grime don’t make the best wingmen.
  9. Dirty dishes. They pile up so fast…and get super distracting.
  10. No bedsheets. It’s true. Not having sheets on the bed isn’t the best sign for Valentine’s Day!
