If your home is a sum of all your experiences, then AFAR magazine’s senior travel editor Danielle’s home has enough stories to write a book. The pieces in her home are memories of her and her husband’s days of living in NYC, her travels around the world, and mementos passed down by relatives. Find inspiration for your next home project with these task tips.

What do you love most about your job?

It’s kind of obvious, but I love all the places my job takes me. The best part of those places is always the people I meet there.

How has your work influenced your home?

I’ve picked up some things on my travels, from ceramics in Vietnam to ingredients from around Europe.

What do you love most about your home?

Our giant farm-style dining table! I love having my friends and family over for dinner, brunch, anything. The fact that our wine fridge is right next to our table is no coincidence.

How would you describe your home style?

Can I say comfort-minded again? It’s a relaxed feel with a few clean lines and some fun textures.

DSC_0375_800pxHow do you make your house more feel like home?

I have lots of blankets, pillows, and vases with fresh flowers. All those things come together to soften edges and make us feel at ease and surrounded by beautiful things.

What’s a home project you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t gotten around to?

I’m dying to create a workspace that’s both functional and attractive. Right now, our desk is pretty much a filing cabinet and my least-favorite piece of furniture in our place. It’s one of those pieces that just somehow hangs on from move to move even though neither of us like it!

What inspires your home style?

I love Apartment Therapy (we were actually featured on the site as a house tour recently!). I’ve been following that site for almost 10 years. I also love Scandinavian design, but who doesn’t?

What’s the last thing you’ve bought or found for your home?

The wall hanging above our bed. I found it on Etsy for $88, which my fiance doesn’t realize is actually a great deal! It fulls up the large space and is earthquake-friendly.

Most stressful thing about having your own place?

Cleaning! We hire somebody to come clean our two-bedroom—really scour it—probably every other month or so.

How would you describe your home in 3-5 words?

Best place for dinner parties.

Favorite home project you’ve completed?

Properly framing all the art we’ve bought/inherited over the years.

If you could redo something in your home, what would it be?

I’m not in love with our stall shower with a separate tub. I’d love to make the tub a shower and install a washer/dryer! That would be the dream.

What’s the next home project you’re hoping to get done?

We have a new desk sitting in storage! That’s next on our list.

What do you love most about the:

Living room

Arrangement of furniture

Kitchen/dining room

Table

Bedroom

Window seat (even though we never use it!!)
