LA & OC:  A Place To Build Connections

Ahhh, Southern California—the place we see in our mind’s eye when we think of beaches, palm trees, and movie stars. The LA & OC area is one of Taskrabbit’s most prominent metros, with an amazing group of Taskers and customers who often touch each other’s lives in unexpected ways.

We chatted with some of our Taskers who have great tasking memories in this area, and what we found was an underlying consistent theme: Not only do LA & OC tasks come with the possibility of glitz and glamor, but they can also lead to the types of human connections that make Taskrabbit great.

An LA & OC Move—Toward Friendship

For Tasker Brandon B., tasking in LA & OC is special for a number of reasons. Not only has he been given the opportunity to meet very successful people who have amazing stories to share, but he’s also made strong, lasting connections.

His most memorable connection? A full-service moving task for a customer named CeeCee.

“Upon arrival, I was met by CeeCee and her son, who was halfway out the door,” Brandon tells us. “After her son left, CeeCee teared up and clearly wasn’t in a good mood. I started helping her in every way I could, because I could tell she was stressed. We quickly made a game plan together and got to work. After we talked her situation through, she began to realize her situation was better than it seemed. We made an amazing team and finished her move successfully.”

CeeCee was so grateful that she proceeded to shower Brandon with a great tip and a few items she no longer had space for—including an awesome memorabilia photo of Tom Brady.

But that wasn’t all. CeeCee even included Brandon in her holiday card a few months later, because he was now “part of the family.” CeeCee has since become Brandon’s new “mom” away from home, and they eat Sunday dinners and watch football games whenever they can.

“CeeCee has impacted my life in so many ways,” Brandon says. “She has made me realize that any connection—big or small—can lead to an amazing thing! I now know that if I continue to keep all the doors open in my life, I’ll continue to be amazed by the people who walk through.”

Tasking in Topanga Canyon

Tasker Jalonie K. had never quite vibed with rigid schedules, and when a Taskrabbit user he was working for suggested he become a Tasker, it was a match made in sunny SoCal heaven.

“My first meaningful Taskrabbit experience was when I went to task for someone in Topanga Canyon,” Jalonie tells us. “She and her daughter were so nice—they even fed me, and I really enjoyed their attitude, along with the amazing views!”

Another time, Jalonie tasked for a comedian in Hollywood who rode in a wheelchair. “He was a true gentleman and made great—and hilarious—conversation,” Jalonie says. “But the coolest task was one in Burbank, at the home of a well-known TikTok influencer. Everyone there was so cool to be around and work with!”

What Jalonie loves most about tasking, however, are the ongoing human interactions. “When I connect with a client, I enjoy being able to work with them, often on an ongoing basis. Sometimes, it doesn’t even feel like work. And with Taskrabbit, it always feels as if clients are hiring me. It’s a great feeling to be chosen.”

Jalonie is now using his Taskrabbit experience with furniture assembly to further his long-term goal of becoming an upholsterer. You can hire him here!

An Ocean View

Tasker Hollyann B. loves seeing the ocean, and quite frequently, her LA & OC tasks come with amazing views of the Pacific—and genuine personal connections.

As a rule, Hollyann never hesitates to go above and beyond in helping her customers. When this occurred with her customer JoAnne, however, it turned into an ongoing connection—and multiple new business referrals for both of them.

“During our first task, I recommended an IKEA Hemnes daybed for JoAnne’s guest room,” Hollyann says. “She bought it and then invited me back to assemble it. During the second task, she asked me about a space in her loft, and I suggested the Alex desk. She bought it and again hired me to assemble it. This pattern continued with a few small vanity pieces, and ultimately, she asked if she could share my Tasker information in a resource directory she maintained with her friends.”

JoAnne has sent at least three referrals Hollyann’s way, and Hollyann has even referred JoAnne to service providers for other projects.

Building a business on Taskrabbit has been great for Hollyann, because it has allowed her to be available for her ten-year-old child before and after school. “I quit my nine-hour day job and now only task on Taskrabbit. And the best part? I make twice as much per hour as I did at my previous full-time job.”

That sounds like another win-win for LA & OC customers and Taskers. You can book Hollyann for a task here!

Tasking And…Breakfast!

As you might have guessed by now, making new connections is one of Taskrabbit’s biggest perks. Just ask Tasker Jose F., who found himself tasking for a young LA resident named Valerie, who promptly offered him breakfast when he arrived.

“Right away, Valerie liked my work, and she hired me back for more tasks,” Jose says. “I ended up meeting her dad, mom, and sister, and now, they’re like family to me. Every time I’m over, they invite me to sit down and join them for whatever meal they’re about to eat. I’ve made a wonderful connection with them, all while helping them fix their home, which they always appreciate.”

Before becoming a Tasker, Jose was looking for work everywhere—temp jobs, fast food, and odd jobs here and there. After joining Taskrabbit and earning his first good reviews, customers encouraged him to task full time.

“I was scared about going full time at first, but customers kept repeating the suggestion to me. Next thing I knew, I was accepting tasks left and right—mostly for IKEA furniture assembly. Ever since, I’ve had one or two weeks of work lined up in advance. My amazing LA & OC customers have allowed me to be both financially stable and present for my daughter. And the reason tasking is particularly special down here is because of all the different cultures you get to experience—not to mention the friendly and welcoming people.”

Jose even invited Valerie and her family to his daughter’s Quinceañera, and yes, they showed up. As he put it: “We all had a blast, and I have pictures and videos to prove it!”

While Taskrabbit is all about saving you time and improving your home, it’s also about supporting Taskers who have reclaimed their financial freedom by building their own businesses. And take it from them: in sunny LA & OC, the connections made can help your day shine just a little bit brighter.
