In November 2022, Taskrabbit for Good—Taskrabbit’s social impact program—partnered with Code Tenderloin, a non-profit based in our hometown of San Francisco. Code Tenderloin’s mission is to remove barriers that keep people from securing long-term employment, such as finances, legal, soft skills, childcare, transportation, and education. They also connect local businesses, tech companies, and nonprofits with the right candidates for long-term work opportunities (this is where we come in!).
Taskrabbit employees and Taskers teamed up and led a series of six workshops to teach members of Code Tenderloin’s Job Readiness Program the soft skills (customer service in the home) and hard skills (mounting, cleaning and yard work) needed to start their own home services businesses.
By the end of the program, 46 participants came to at least one session, and 31 completed all six sessions. Attendees came from all walks of life, including people that are experiencing homelessness and returning citizens. Because each participant has unique needs, Taskrabbit for Good and Code Tenderloin tag-teamed and made sure everyone had the tools and resources required to find success. For example, some people needed smartphones in order to download the Taskrabbit app or apply to jobs, whereas others needed tools or cleaning supplies to get started.
Surveys were passed out at the end of every session, finding that:
- 100% of participants found the content to be valuable
- 100% of participants said they were likely to use the information and skills they had learned in the future
- 100% of participants found the trainers to be engaging and supportive (one participant even called the Tasker trainers “perfect”!)
Workforce development programs like this are a fantastic way to apply Taskers’ incredible skills in a way that can actually benefit our neighbors and communities.
