What do you do here at Dolly?\u00a0<\/b>One of the platform engineers who builds and maintains features for the unseen side of Dolly. I also am the system owner of our web app, book.dolly.com<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Any fun facts about yourself that you\u2019d like to share? <\/b>For my first interview at Dolly, I went to the wrong address – and I still got the job!<\/p>\n

What’s your favorite thing about working at Dolly?<\/strong>\u00a0The geeky culture, the exciting amount of growth, and the inclusiveness and diversity of our team.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alice’s Day in the Life<\/h2>\n

6:30AM <\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I start my day by waking up to NPR\u2019s <\/span>Up First<\/b><\/a> podcast. Then I continue the start of a day with a variety of podcasts (NPR<\/a>, Freakeconomics<\/a>, Geekwire<\/a>, etc.). I grab breakfast, then head out on my morning walk with Sophie, my beagle.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

8:00AM<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When I arrive at office, I get coffee in my Seattle Starbucks mug.\u00a0<\/span>Then I get started by diving into code. I\u2019m mostly wrapping up the current sprint (\u201csprints\u201d are the projects we\u2019re working on that week), testing some new features, and fixing bugs found in testing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next, I respond to Ops requests that have been piling up since 5am and solve real time problems as needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

9:00AM<\/h3>\n

Code, code, code! At 9:45, we have our daily 15-minute standup meeting. We talk about our plan for today and what we need to do as the product team.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

10:00AM<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Next is our weekly product sprint planning meeting for an hour and a half. We talk about what projects we\u2019d like to tackle over the next week.<\/span><\/p>\n

12:00PM <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Lunch \u2013 I usually bring my own lunch because I like to cook, but often secretly wish I have what the next person has, like sushi or bagels!<\/span><\/p>\n

I attack the puzzle for a little bit with our Office Manager, Casey. This one is 3,000 pieces!<\/span><\/p>\n

More coding. And more testing & fulfilling Ops requests.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coffee walk \u2013 A group activity. We walk to one of the nearby coffee shops and grab a snack. I don\u2019t always get something but definitely enjoy this gorgeous view from Starbucks on the 40th floor \u00a0of Columbia Tower.<\/span><\/p>\n

4:00PM <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Testing, testing, testing! <\/span>Finally, I scope out new sprint tasks for the rest of the week.<\/span><\/p>\n

Start my commute home with my audiobook \u2013 current read: <\/span>The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood<\/b><\/a> by James Gleick.<\/span><\/p>\n

When I get home, I feed and take Sophie for a walk\/run\/puppy meetup in the neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n
