Now has come the time, though, to move your TV to a new apartment or house. And you want to be sure to move it safely and securely so it can provide you with many warm nights to come. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whenever you move anything sensitive or delicate, it helps to have a plan. Dismounting and packing TV for moving is no different. And while isn\u2019t complicated, it does require care. Its glass and electrical components can be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">very<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sensitive, so you have to ensure you\u2019re properly protecting it against the tumult of a move. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supplies you\u2019ll need:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Painter&#8217;s and packing tape (painter\u2019s tape is a good choice when taping cords and bubble wrap to the TV itself) <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bubble wrap<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moving blanket<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Packing peanuts or packing paper<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A large television box<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A trusted helper<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Sharpie or marker<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With supplies in hand, here are a few steps to consider to properly dismount your television from the wall, pack, and move it to your new pad. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#1: <strong>Disconnect electricity.<\/strong> This is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">always<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the first step when dealing with appliances. Electricity is not your friend, so remove it from the equation. Tape the TV\u2019s power cord securely to the back with painter\u2019s tape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>#2:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Disconnect and remove all cords from cable boxes, video games, and sound systems.<\/strong> Make sure they\u2019re out of the way so you don\u2019t get tangled up in them while removing the TV from the wall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1995\" src=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/disconnect-cords-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"547\" \/><\/p>\n<p>#3:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Remove your TV from a wall bracket.<\/strong> If your TV is mounted on a bracket, it will likely be attached both to the wall and the television. You want to remove the television from the bracket, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">then<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> deal with the bracket second. Don\u2019t think you\u2019ll save time by removing the bracket with the TV attached. Yes, you really need two people. We know TVs are lighter than ever, but they\u2019re also awkwardly shaped and easy to break. There\u2019s no good reason to risk hurting yourself or breaking the TV so you can knock it out on your own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>#5:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dismount the TV.<\/strong> You and your helper can now dismount the TV from the bracket. Lift it slowly and set it down someplace flat and safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1997\" src=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/friend-dismount.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>#6:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Set your TV in a safe place.<\/strong> Typically it\u2019s good to leave the TV upright, like it would be if you were watching it. But if you don&#8217;t have the stand, don\u2019t risk it tipping and falling. Set it someplace flat and soft &#8211; like the middle of your bed. Do not tilt it against a wall or against a couch, or put it near the edge of a table.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>#7:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Remove the bracket from the wall.<\/strong> With the TV out of the way, this should be relatively straightforward. Remove bolts and anchor screws, and place everything together for bagging and packing later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1998\" src=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/bracket-back.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.taskrabbit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/bracket-back.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.taskrabbit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/bracket-back-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>#8:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Protect the TV\u2019s screen.<\/strong> Next, cut two pieces of cardboard roughly size of the screen and attach them to the front with painters tape. This added protection ensures nothing can push in, dent, or crack the screen during a move.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>#9:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Pack your TV.<\/strong> Now, use bubble wrap to wrap your TV two-to-three times lengthwise. Secure with moving tape. \u00a0Then, wrap the TV with a large <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/moving-hacks-using-moving-blankets-straps-rope\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">moving blanket<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and secure tightly with moving tape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1999\" src=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/wrap-flatscreen-securely.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p>#10:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Use a dedicated TV box.<\/strong> You might think bubble wrap and moving blankets are all you need &#8211; but if you want to protect your precious appliance, you really need a solid box. Didn\u2019t keep the giant moving box your TV came in? Who does?! But these boxes, you may remember, are typically constructed of stiff, sturdy cardboard that won\u2019t get crushed when stacked alongside other boxes. You can easily <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Cheap-Moving-Boxes-Screen-TV\/dp\/B00I1LSL3I\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">buy a TV box online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to fit your television. Considering the cost of replacing your TV, it\u2019s well worth the money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2000\" src=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/flatscreen-box-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"385\" \/><\/p>\n<p>#11:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>With your helper, lift and lower your TV into the box, and then tape securely.<\/strong> Using a marker, note the direction of the top of the television so movers don\u2019t stack it on its head and risk damaging it. Your new TV box may have a \u201cthis side up!\u201d note on its side. If it does not &#8211; use the marker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2001\" src=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/loading-into-box.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"513\" \/><\/p>\n<p>#12:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Fill the box.<\/strong> Use packing peanuts or tons of crushed moving paper.
