We\u2019re talking about making organization an everyday part of your life. We asked home organizers and interior designers for their top organization tips, and they\u2019re happy to share that, while color-coded binders are great, there are some better (and easier) ways to organize your home:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Start with a Home Purge (Or Your Spring Cleaning)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><iframe class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/HIrYP4RI9DpLy\" width=\"480\" height=\"331\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/cleaning-clean-HIrYP4RI9DpLy\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you haven\u2019t already, it\u2019s time to do your <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/spring-cleaning-checklist-room-by-room\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=home-organizing-tips-from-the-pros\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spring cleaning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (or fall cleaning&#8230;or winter cleaning&#8230;let\u2019s just call it \u201cdelayed spring cleaning,\u201d no matter when it is). Don\u2019t let yourself get distracted. If you really want to post photos of what you&#8217;re doing on social media, take the photos and wait until you&#8217;re finished organizing to post them. From storage ottomans to shoe rack benches, it\u2019s easy to find furniture that fits multiple purposes &#8211; and can help you organize your stuff in functional spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But you can go beyond furniture, too. J.B. Sassanno, President of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrhandyman.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr. Handyman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, offers this advice for organizing your stuff: \u201cUtilize the underside of your surfaces. Install hooks or glue the lids of glass jars to the underside of the surface so the jar can be screwed on and off.\u201d And there\u2019s more than just Pinterest projects to keep your stuff in (beautiful) order: \u201cDisplay purses or shoes on the back of your closet door, using hooks and specialized holders. This also helps you see your options when you\u2019re getting ready.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Buy Yourself Organization Tools You\u2019ll Use<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><iframe class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/PObhPDzNyKyaY\" width=\"480\" height=\"288\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/beginners-PObhPDzNyKyaY\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the thought of a label maker may sound a bit over the top, it\u2019s something organizer Josh Matteson of home service provider <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lula.life\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lula Life<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> swears by: \u201cLabels can create habits. The key to organizing is having a home for everything. When things are labeled, it is easy to remember to put them away and where to put them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while you\u2019re at the office supply store, buy yourself some file folders and a storage cabinet &#8211; you\u2019ll thank yourself later, Matteson promises: \u201cDespite the move towards a paperless world (shoutout to Michael Scott!), our lives are still consumed with paper. One of the biggest sources of clutter is paper without a place. While science is yet to determine if black holes can be destroyed, interior designer and designer on HGTV\u2019s Brother versus Brother <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/francisinteriors.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Francis Toumbakaris<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> believes they can (and should) be made smaller. \u201cI&#8217;m a huge fan of interior drawer dividers. IKEA carries <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ikea.com\/us\/en\/catalog\/products\/30300281\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">very inexpensive canvas\/nylon ones<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Interior drawer dividers are great because they let you divide things like dressy socks, athletic socks and underwear. While the first time is always the hardest, it doesn\u2019t have to be like that forever. \u201cEnsure decluttering and organizing is part of your seasonal or yearly routine,\u201d says professional organizer Bridget James of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theorganizingprofessionals.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Organizing Professionals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cSet a date on the calendar for your next project, and get into the habit of keeping this routine.\u201d If you\u2019re doing a \u201cditch or donate\u201d purge every three months, and you\u2019re reorganizing each time, you\u2019ll find that the work becomes easier and easier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Want to take it up a notch? Make organizing a part of your daily routine. Set up a schedule of things to take care of daily (like reconciling and organizing receipts), weekly (tidying up and cleaning your home), and monthly (disposing of dated paperwork and decluttering your home).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>When Organizing Your Home, Item Matters More Than Room<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><iframe class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/OaKDGsxQLssUM\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/listen-up-OaKDGsxQLssUM\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Think for a moment: how many pens do you have in your home? There are probably a few in your desk, and a couple in some of your kitchen drawers. One or two in your bedside table, a few in the living room, one hanging out on the counter, three or four lost in your briefcase\u2026 In other words, you have way more pens than you really need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s probably the case for quite a few things in your home. Richard Mumby, Expert Organizer and CMO of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/makespace.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MakeSpace<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, knows this problem all too well. But he has a quick solution: \u201cOrganize items by category, not location. Doing so allows you to get rid of duplicates &#8211; you\u2019ll see exactly how many of the same items you have (i.e. spoons, towels, shoes, books), then you can make more a educated decision about what to keep.\u201d And if you need some motivation, just remember: less clutter means less organizing to do, and less organizing to do means more time to binge-watch <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Game of Thrones<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Ask for Organizing Help<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2639\" src=\"https:\/\/dolly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Dolly_NE_shoot-4-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"820\" height=\"547\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When organizing your home, you\u2019re likely going to feel overwhelmed and stressed.
