From a dog’s perspective

Hello friends.  Kobe here, the 100-lb yellow lab, that was the inspiration for RunMyErrand.  I’ve been begging my mom to let me write a blog post, but she is such a control freak.  I finally managed to convince her. My life has changed a lot since that cold February evening in 2008.  I remember it vividly, because I was starving and my parents were buzzing around the house getting ready to go somewhere.  I’m not sure where, but the frantic running around is common in my house.  All I wanted was my kibble and bits (and bits and bits), so I sat there staring at them with a stoic demeanor … that always grabs their attention.  Finally, papa went to fill my bowl, but something was wrong … there were no more bits in the bag.  Panic.  Attack.  I mean, seriously guys, I can’t go without two hearty meals a day … I’m not some little chihuahua. As the parents tried to figure out how they were going to feed me, the idea for RunMyErrand …

It all started with a dog. Or did it?

It was a cold evening in February of 2008 … my husband, Kevin, and I were getting ready to go out to dinner in the South End.  We were headed to Masa which has fantastic margaritas and southwest flair.  We had already called a cab to come pick us up, when we realized we were out of dog food for our 100 lb yellow lab named Kobe. Having the cab stop on the way home would be a pain, and as we sat at the kitchen table, trying to come up with a plan for dog food, the idea for RunMyErrand.com was born.  Kevin thought, “wouldn’t it be nice if there was some place online where we could post our need?”.   We were certain that someone, probably even right in our own neighborhood could help.  In the 5 minutes before the cab came to pick them up, I picked up my iPhone and searched for the domain “RunMyErrand.com” …. it was AVAILABLE!  Serendipitous for sure!  I bought the domain before the cab honked at our …

Skunked!

Over the weekend Kobe had a lovely little run-in with monsieur skunk.  It was the first time in his (almost) 9 years of life that he’s gotten sprayed, and you have to imagine that we were quite surprised living in the city that this could happen here.  That being said, we do live in this funky little burrow that is rampant with wild life such as raccoons, hawks, birds, and squirrels.  Anyway, as soon as he walked in from his pre-bedtime outing, the odor was overwhelming.  We immediately threw him into the tub and scoured the house for tomato juice to pour over him.  Instead of tomato juice, all I could find was New England’s Best Bloody Mary Mix, homemade marinara sauce, and Ragu Traditional Old World Style spaghetti sauce.  Not really the ideal trinity of deodorizing products.  We dumped what we could onto his coat, but that skunk odor is just terrible to alleviate.  Not to mention suffocating when you are trapped in a small bathroom, with a wet dog, and hot, steamy, skunky …

Remy’s gone to the dogs!

I mentioned in the original Charlestown Patriot Bridge article, that the idea for RUNmyERRAND came when we were out of dog food one night and were our way out to dinner at Masa in the South End.  We had already called a cab, so there was no way to run out quickly before the cab came, and there was also no way we could let the big meat head go starving, even for one night.  We bounced around ideas to get dog food … calling a neighbor and borrowing a cup, asking the cab to stop on the way home, but none of these seemed ideal.  That is when Remy was born … "If we offered the right price … there has to be someone out there that would purchase the dog food, and leave it at our door, so Kobe can eat when we get home later". Solving this very problem, RUNmyERRAND welcomes Polka Dog Bakery in the South End as one of our newest "Biz Senders"!  Now you can get your dog and …
