Questions we've heard before

What is TaskRabbit?

What does TaskRabbit do?

TaskRabbit is a web and mobile marketplace that provides people and businesses with an easy and trusted way to get everyday Tasks done in their own communities. We connect TaskPosters who need something done to TaskRabbits who can do them.

How does it work?

If you have a Task that you need done, just post it here Posting a Task is easy and free. All you need is a valid credit card (you won't be charged until after the Task has been completed):

  1. When you post a Task, make sure you describe it in detail; indicate when and where it needs to be done & set the price you are willing to pay. The more detail you have, the higher the chance that your Task will be completed on time and to your specs.

  2. We'll then send a notification out to the TaskRabbits in your area and you'll quickly hear from TaskRabbits who can help. They will bid on your job with a price they believe is appropriate based on your detailed Task description

  3. Once your Task is complete, pay your TaskRabbit online, and then rate & review them to indicate your level of satisfaction. If your TaskRabbit pays for anything while doing your Task (like groceries they pick up for you), you can reimburse them through our site. You can learn more about it here.

Who are the TaskPosters?

Our community is open to anyone looking for an extra hand. We provide services for busy individuals and for businesses looking to save money.

Who are the TaskRabbits?

Our TaskRabbits first apply online and, if selected, are added to the community based on location and skills. Our TaskRabbit Runner network also is 100% background-checked by a third-party company. TaskRabbits include stay at-home-moms (and dads!), young professionals, retirees, and college students. We’re proud to have a broad slice of the community represented as part of our TaskRabbit base.

Do the TaskRabbits work for TaskRabbit?

They do not. TaskRabbit only serves as a platform for TaskPosters and TaskRabbits to meet. Our role is specified in our Terms of Service.

I have a lot more questions. Where do I go to find answers?

You can head over to our support forum. There are a ton more FAQs there as well as community asked and answered questions. In addition to calling us at 888-661-8105, you can also click on the “help” tab over on the right to email or chat with a member services associate.

Posting A Task

What can I post as a TaskPoster?

You can post any Task that you need done! Keep in mind that the TaskRabbit community is self-policing. Inappropriate Task posts will be flagged, reported, and subsequently removed. Use common sense when posting new Tasks. If you need some ideas, see them here.

How much does it cost?

The TaskPoster decides how much they’re willing to pay to have a Task complete. This information is not visible to the TaskRabbits -- this ensures that the market is competitive.

The TaskRabbits then determine how much they want to do the Task for, taking into consideration the Task’s location, details, complexity, and a variety of other factors. When a TaskRabbit makes their bid, we add our service fee and the TaskPoster sees the total price they would pay if the bid was accepted.

We’re aiming for a win/win every time here -- to get the TaskPoster the best price, and the assigned TaskRabbit the money they would like to earn. Click here for more information on pricing.

Do you have any tips on how to get my Task assigned and completed?

Definitely! Here are a couple tips that might help:

  • Be specific: TaskRabbits are more likely to bid on a Task with simple but detailed descriptions. A good description is the key to getting great bids!

  • Location: We have TaskRabbits all over the place, so knowing roughly what neighborhood you’re in will help us target the right TaskRabbits for your Task.

  • Notifications: If your Task needs to be completed immediately, your TaskRabbit can automatically be chosen for you -- once they’re assigned, you’ll be emailed their contact information, and you can contact them immediately. It’s best to make sure your email or text notifications are on, so you’ll know when a TaskRabbit is on the job! If you have an urgent Task, feel free to add your phone number to your profile or to the Tasks’s private notes.

How do the different TaskRabbit selections work?

There are several different options for selecting a TaskRabbit for your Task. When you post a Task, you’ll see the following options under TaskRabbit Selection:

  1. Pick for me (most popular), based on availability and price. This is the default option, ‘cause it’s the easiest. If a TaskRabbit’s bid comes in under your TaskPrice, they get chosen automatically.

  2. Let me review offers before auto assignment. You have a chance to accept or decline bids as they come in; if your Task expires, a TaskRabbit bid will automatically be chosen for you.

  3. Give first dibs to a TaskRabbit I've worked with before. Only the TaskRabbit you choose will be notified of this Task. If your selected TaskRabbit does not respond, we'll get the word out to our TaskRabbit network.

How do I give a specific TaskRabbit dibs on my Task?

You can do so by clicking the Hire Me button on a TaskRabbit's profile page. Only the TaskRabbit you choose will be notified of this Task. They then have the opportunity to ask you a question or make a bid. If your selected TaskRabbit doesn’t respond, we'll get the word out to our TaskRabbit network and they’ll have a chance to view and bid on the Task before it expires.

What are those numbers next to TaskRabbits’ profile photos?

The number next to the TaskRabbits' photos indicate their Rabbit level. TaskRabbits earn points for doing Tasks, making good bids, and inviting their friends. It's a simple way for TaskPosters to clearly see the experience level of a particular TaskRabbit. The higher their level, the more experience they have!

What if I need a TaskRabbit to come by every week?

Want to set up a Task that recurs every week? That’s easy! When you're posting a Task, you can indicate that you'd like to Repeat this Task. Once selected, choose the frequency (Every 1 week, 2 weeks, etc.). If you'd like to edit this recurring Task, you should be able to find it again under My Recurring Tasks on your account page.

When you've selected your TaskRabbit for your first week, that TaskRabbit will continue to be automatically assigned to this Task every time it recurs. All you need to do is remember to close out the Task and pay your TaskRabbit. Pie wishes it could be this easy!

Are the out-of-pocket expenses included in the TaskPrice?

Expenses that the Rabbit spends on your behalf, such as the unpaid cost of groceries or IKEA furniture, should not be included in your TaskPrice. You can add that information in the Out of pocket expenses field of the Post a Task form. This reimbursement charge will be included in the total amount we charge to your credit card.

Can a TaskRabbit see my TaskPrice?

Nope! We want to make sure that you’re getting the best deal in our open marketplace. The best way is to keep your TaskPrice private and allow our TaskRabbits to bid based on your Task description.

What information is private on my Task?

Any time you see a padlock icon next to an entry or action, it means that this is private information. As a TaskPoster, your TaskPrice, address, phone number, and email address are all private. Once a Task has been assigned, the address and contact info of the TaskRabbit and TaskPoster are revealed to both Task Partners.

If you've indicated on your Post a Task form that This Task is Private, the Task will be shown to the TaskRabbit base to bid on, but will be hidden to the entire community once a TaskRabbit is assigned.

Why can't I share my contact information in comments or in my Task description?

To protect your privacy, we prevent sharing your contact information in comments or Task descriptions on the site because, by default, Tasks are visible to the public.

Feel free to post comments or replies to discuss details before a TaskRabbit is assigned to the Task. You can even provide a link to a file or upload a photo to the Task in order to clarify details. Only when a TaskRabbit has been assigned, the TaskPoster and the assigned TaskRabbit will receive each other's contact information.

What if I need to edit or cancel a Task?

You can edit or cancel any Task that’s still in the Open state, which means it hasn’t been assigned to a TaskRabbit. If a TaskRabbit is already assigned, please email help@taskrabbit.com or call 888-661-8105 and let us know the reason for the cancellation or modification and we can assist you further with your specific request.

Having a Task Completed

How do I reimburse a TaskRabbit for any out-of-pocket expenses?

In addition to paying a TaskRabbit online for his/her TaskRabbit Payment, we also provide a platform to reimburse TaskRabbits for any out-of-pocket expenses they may incur through the course of the Task. Any out-of-pocket expenditures can be added by the TaskRabbit when they mark the Task Completed. The TaskPoster then has a chance to review this amount when they mark the Task Closed. The TaskRabbit should provide the TaskPoster with receipts or photos of the receipts for proof of expenditure.

Tips are not expected, but they are appreciated if the TaskRabbit went above and beyond the original scope of the Task! They can be entered into the same field.

What if I need to contact my TaskRabbit while the Task is in progress?

When a TaskRabbit has chosen to do your Task, the Task will be updated with the TaskRabbit's contact information. Only you, as the owner of this Task, will be able to see the TaskRabbit's contact information.

What if a TaskRabbit has been assigned and I have a scheduling conflict?

If your Task has a flexible timeline, feel free to keep the Task in the Assigned state until you can both work out a time to complete the Task. If you’re unable to work out a time with your TaskRabbit, contact us and we’ll help you reopen it to the rest of the community.

What happens if my Task expires?

When you post a new Task, you select a time that the Task will expire. After this time has passed, the Task will be marked as Expired. If the Task expires you can still accept or decline any existing bids, or you can simply repost the Task to open it back up for other TaskRabbits. If you choose the option “I will view before auto-assignment”, a TaskRabbit will be chosen for you if their bid is under your desired TaskPrice. To prevent this, decline any unwanted bids or extend your expiration time.

What happens if I forget to mark my Task as complete?

If a Task that you’ve posted is marked Completed by your TaskRabbit, you have 3 days to close it yourself. Your TaskRabbit will not be paid until you’ve marked the Task Closed. As you can imagine, the sooner you do this, the happier your TaskRabbit will be! If the TaskRabbit has finished your Task and you forget to mark it Closed, the system will automatically mark it Closed after 3 days and transfer the money earned to the TaskRabbit's account.

What if I have a question, dispute, or other problem?

We always encourage our members to communicate with each other when there's a problem with a Task. Most of the time you can work something out with a little bit of teamwork! If you were only able to complete a part of the Task, just agree on a percentage that was done and let us know; we’ll make the appropriate changes regarding the charges/payments. If for some reason you can’t come to a resolution, TaskRabbit Member Services may handle the case and resolve the problem.

If you've already attempted to contact your TaskRabbit but were unable to resolve the problem, we can open a case for you. For general questions, concerns, and feedback you can do any of the following:

  • Open up a chat using the Help tab on the right

  • Call us at 888-661-8105

Applying to become a TaskRabbit

Does it cost money to become a TaskRabbit?

Nope. There's absolutely no cost to fill out an application and no membership fee associated with being a TaskRabbit. We also spring for the cost of the background check and interview process. All you have to do is be yourself.

How do you perform the background check and what are you looking for?

We use a third-party company called Acxiom to run a series of checks through criminal and other databases.

I've submitted my full application and done the video interview, what now?

Since TaskRabbit team members review every single application, it can take up to several weeks to hear back. We bring new TaskRabbits on board based on the current needs of our community. If you don't hear back or your application is archived, don't worry — we may invite you on board as a TaskRabbit as our needs change in the future.

What if I don't have a web-cam?

The video interview is a very important part of the application process and cannot be skipped. If you don't own a webcam, maybe ask a friend to borrow their camera. If this isn't possible, you may choose to film yourself and send us the link to the video. Simply contact us for a list of interview questions to use.

I want to be a TaskRabbit but you aren't in my city yet, can I apply to do virtual Tasks?

We love early applications as they let us know which cities are excited about TaskRabbit launching in their communities. However, we are only on-boarding TaskRabbits in the cities that TaskRabbit is in. Your application will be archived for consideration to do virtual and in-person tasks once we launch in your town.

What if I don't complete the video interview?

You're welcome to complete the interview at your own pace, but your application will not be considered until both the online application and video interview are complete.

Are TaskPosters background-checked?

TaskPosters are subject to a vetting process of their own- each TaskPoster must provide a valid credit card with matching billing address for identity verification. In addition, TaskRabbits have the power to flag Tasks that seem suspicious or unsafe, and should never bid on such Tasks. All TaskRabbits have the right to a safe Tasking environment, and all members of our community our encouraged to help self-police.

What if I encounter a technical problem during the video interview?

If you've already registered and begun your interview, contact OVIA directly. If you receive an error during the registration process, please contact TaskRabbit support.

Why would I want to be a TaskRabbit?

Because you'll be a hero right in your own neighborhood! The Tasks you'll do will help people in your own community live more productive and fulfilling lives. TaskRabbits enjoy infinite autonomy of schedule, the power to set their own rates (some of our TaskRabbits earn up to $5,000 per month), a ton of support for TaskRabbit HQ, and a series of incentives whenever they "level up."

If I apply, am I guaranteed to be accepted?

No, unfortunately we can not guarantee acceptance for everyone. Applying only guarantees that we will review your application. Factors such as location, community needs, and applicant skill sets all inform the acceptance process. We'll let you know by email whether you're eligible to move on to the next step.

What kinds of candidates are you looking for?

We’re on the hunt for enthusiastic and entrepreneurially minded TaskRabbits. If you rock at creatively solving problems, playing well with others, and being a hero every day, you might just be our next TaskRabbit!

My application is on hold, what does that mean?

Don't fret, this is a good thing! It means we think you might make a good TaskRabbit, but you don't fit the needs of our community at this very moment. Your application will be held and revisited as the community's needs change.

Doing and Completing Tasks

How can I start bidding on and doing Tasks?

Easy -- become a TaskRabbit! All you have to do is sign up for a free TaskRabbit account. Once you're a member, you can apply to be a TaskRabbit.

We’re currently adding TaskRabbits in the following cities. If you live in other metro areas, please hang tight. We’re expanding to other regions as fast as possible!

How do I know how much to bid?

Make sure you know the location of the Task as well as how much work the Task involves. You should generally factor in these details to make a bid based on how much your time and effort is worth.

As a TaskRabbit, when and how do I get paid?

Once you’ve completed the Task to the TaskPoster's satisfaction, he or she will mark the Task Closed in the system. Once the Task is marked Closed, money will automatically be transferred to your TaskRabbit account. After you’ve earned more than $25, you can cash out your money at any time. You can receive your payment through a check in the mail or through Paypal. Please consult the TaskRabbit Manual for the payment schedule.

Can I leave a rating and review for my TaskPoster?

Yep. When the Task is marked Closed, you’ll get an email notification. You’ll then have a chance to rate and review the TaskPoster. If the TaskPoster was easy to work with and paid promptly, you can give the TaskPoster an excellent rating and review!

What if I need to ask the TaskPoster a question after my bid’s been accepted for a Task?

After the Task has been assigned to you, the Task will be updated with the TaskPoster's contact information (if he or she has provided it). Only you, as the assigned TaskRabbit, will be able to see this information.

What happens if I’ve completed a Task, but the TaskPoster doesn’t mark it complete?

Once you’ve finished a Task, you’re encouraged to mark it Completed. When you do this, a notification will be sent that lets the TaskPoster know that you’ve completed the Task. This also starts the clock on how much time the TaskPoster has to mark the Task Closed. You’re paid once the TaskPoster marks the Task Closed. If the TaskPoster hasn’t marked the Task Closed 3 days after you’ve marked the Task Completed, the system will automatically mark the Task as Closed and transfer applicable money earned to your TaskRabbit account.

What if there’s inappropriate content posted?

If you see something posted that you feel is inappropriate, we encourage you to flag it immediately. Flagged Tasks will be promptly reported and removed if necessary. The TaskRabbit community is self-policing in this respect, and we appreciate your help. As with any online community that’s driven by user content, there are some people out there looking to ruin it for everyone (we call them … well, you don’t want to know what we call them). With your help, we can make this a place you’re happy to come to without reaching for the brain bleach!

What if I have a question, dispute, or other problem?
