Contact migration- data entry

I have two similar jobs. My wife and I traded in our Treos for Android phones and the contacts do not transfer easily. I have a printout of our contacts and have culled the ones I don't need on the new phone. I need these lists in whatever format will get into google contacts (either csv or vcard). Maybe use a google spreadsheet and then I can import it somehow. I think there are somewhere near 1000 contacts.
The second job is to take xerox's of my mom's phone list and putting them into a google spreadsheet.

I'm open to suggestions if there is a better method to do these jobs.
