TaskRabbit’s API is now available and we’re proud to be working with 3 great partners!

February 10th, 2012

As you may have heard, the product team and I have been busy preparing our API for its public release. Well, today, I am excited to announce that the TaskRabbit API is now available! Third-party applications now have the ability to integrate with TaskRabbit’s API, allowing their users to seamlessly outsource their to-do workflow via TaskRabbit.

There are two ways to implement TaskRabbit’s API within an application. The first is via direct integration, where a third-party application or Web service can engage with TaskRabbit on behalf of a company. Here’s an example: YouEye, an online user testing platform for rapid feedback on any website, is leveraging TaskRabbit’s API to seamlessly staff user testing jobs on behalf of their customers. The diversity of the TaskRabbit’s community offers YouEye customers affordable insights into how people with varied backgrounds engage and experience websites in the real world.

The second is a per user integration. Imagine a world where you can log on to your favorite productivity or to-do list app, and with a click of a button, you could instantly outsource your to-dos to a fully-vetted and background-checked individual. Well, that’s now a reality with our API’s per user integration.

Astrid, the personal assistant app that helps people manage their to-dos, has integrated the TaskRabbit API into its Android, Web, and iPhone apps. Astrid has taken steps to ensure that users can manage the entire Task posting experience within the Astrid app, and the UX is very consistent with TaskRabbit’s. Astrid is the first to bring the TaskRabbit experience to the Android. Producteev, the task management app, has also integrated the TaskRabbit’s API into its Web app. As our friends at Producteev announced last month, they were the first to use our API to allow users to outsource any Task directly from Producteev to our community of TaskRabbits – in just one click.

We are thrilled to continue building our vision for the ultimate “service networking” platform.  Our API demonstrates that TaskRabbit is continuing to enable its members to use the platform in seamless and innovative ways. It also means that users of every operating system – from iOS, to Android to Windows – can now tap into the TaskRabbit platform to live smarter and more efficiently – without ever having to leave their favorite productivity app.

Consider this development an appetizer for the full-blown apps we plan to bring to those other platforms. Speaking of, did you know we’re looking for help with that? Fit the bill? Get in touch.

TaskRabbit Acquires SkillSlate

January 9th, 2012

As you know, 2011 was a pretty huge year for the TaskRabbit team. And now, it looks like 2012 is shaping up to be just as exciting. We are kicking the year off with some big news. Today, we are thrilled to announce that TaskRabbit has acquired SkillSlate!

SkillSlate is an auction-based website for local services. SkillSlate crowdsources its network of service providers to help its customers with any task they need done or alternatively, provide instruction on a particular skill they’d like to develop. Sound familiar? SkillSlate is certainly similar to TaskRabbit, particularly in the sense that it’s a service marketplace. What makes SkillSlate unique, though, is its focus on skill-based and artistic tasks – including personal training, tutoring, DJing and even fire dancing. By integrating SkillSlate’s platform with TaskRabbit’s, we will be able to provide an even more enhanced service – one where folks can get help with practically anything.

These integrations are sure to be awesome, but, as you’ve heard before, at TaskRabbit, chemistry is everything. We are so excited to have such a highly skilled and talented team of entrepreneurs joining our team. Bartek Ringwelski, SkillSlate’s co-founder and CEO, joins TaskRabbit as director of financial planning and analysis, Brian Rothenberg, co-founder and VP of Product & Marketing, comes on as director of online marketing and Mike Nelson, CTO, is the newest member of TaskRabbit’s engineering team.

With this exciting news, we are looking forward to a wonderful and productive 2012! We wish you the same.

Leah & Eric

TaskRabbit Closes $17.8 m Series B Funding Round Led by LightSpeed Venture Partners

December 13th, 2011

2011 has been quite a banner year for us at TaskRabbit…Since January, we have steadily and strategically expanded our service to various cities throughout the country – from SF  to LA and Orange County to NYC to Chicago. In May, we closed our Series A funding led by Shasta Ventures. This summer, we launched our awesome iPhone app. In September, we were honored to be featured on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer as a solution to the economic crisis in this country.  A month later, we hired a stellar CEO, Eric Grosse, to work with Leah as she focuses on the product strategy. Over the year, we have gained significant momentum – tripling our monthly Task volume and increasing our customer base seven fold. Phew, it’s been quite a year!

It is only fitting then that we would round out 2011 with even more exciting news – the closing of a $17.8 m round of financing led by LightSpeed Venture Partners. In addition to TaskRabbit’s existing investors - 500 StartupsBaseline Ventures, First Round Capital, FLOODGATE Fund, Collaborative Fund and Shasta Ventures - other firms, including Allen & Company and The Tornante Company, the investment firm led by Disney’s former CEO, Michael Eisner, have also participated in the round. We are so excited to partner with LightSpeed and our new investors.

So, how can we outpace our success in 2011 in 2012? Well, we are gonna keep up the momentum next year, focusing initially on geographic expansion. We have received thousand and thousands of requests via Twitter, Facebook, email, etc to bring TaskRabbit to cities around the world. In fact, moments after the ABC segment ran back in September, our site was flooded by folks who wanted TaskRabbit in their own neighborhood. We got such incredible demand that our servers went down briefly.

Well, we’ve been listening and are so excited to get going. Our new investment will help us respond to this overwhelming demand and allow us to bring the service to those who have been clamoring for it as a solution to their employment and economic situation and their hectic, crazy lives. So, where are we headed? Seattle, Portland, Austin, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, DC, Denver, Philly (just to name a few)… get ready for some easy living!

To ensure the most positive user experience in all our markets, we will also be focusing on making our product and marketplace even more incredible that it is today – that includes adding some cool new features and capabilities. For example, we will adding features that allow our users to more effectively manage their lives through a seamless Task posting process. We will also be building and enriching features that support the mobile experience across multiple platforms. And, as always, we will continue to refine our best-in-class safety features to ensure our community’s security.

To support our aggressive roll-out and growing community, we will be accelerating our recruitment and hiring. Yeah, that’s right! All you engineers and designers out there, we are looking at you! If you’re looking to work on a product that is revolutionizing the way people collaborate with others in their community, reach out to us.  As we’ve said before, we are bringing the neighborhood back. Now, we want to bring more talented folks on board to help us realize this vision. If you are interested, please send your resume to careers@taskrabbit.com.

It’s been more than 3 years since we launched TaskRabbit. Since then, we have redefined the way people collaborate with folks in their own community to get things done.  With the support of our new and existing investors, we will bring TaskRabbit to additional markets and continue to realize our vision of empowering everyone to live a smarter, more fulfilling life by once again relying on their neighbors.

Here’s to continued success in 2012!

Leah & Eric

Our Do More. Live More. Be More. Winner

October 24th, 2011

TaskRabbit spent the last 30 days encouraging folks to live well and live productively during our Do More. Live More. Be More. Challenge. This month-long challenge encouraged folks to take some time for themselves and spend it doing the things they truly want to do, not what they need to do. We took to Facebook and Twitter and posed a very simple question: What would you promise yourself if you had more time to do the things you want to do? At the end of the campaign, we promised to randomly select one entry to win our grand prize – a luxury vacation for two to anywhere in the US.

We were overwhelmed by the fantastic response we received. We heard amazing stories from people all over the world promising to spend more time with their friends and family, address nagging health concerns, take a dream vacation, learn a new skill, read more, sleep more, and exercise more.

Huge thanks to all who made a promise! We were touched and inspired by each and every promise! But alas, there can only be one grand-prize winner. And that winner is… Tricia Reilly from San Francisco, CA, who promised  ”to spend less time indoors dealing with my household to-do list and more time enjoying the natural beauty of the Bay Area, reconnecting with my friends and family, etc.” Congratulations, Tricia! So, how did Tricia take the news? By the sound of her email, we take it she is pretty excited:

“I’m so excited to have won the TaskRabbit Promises contest! With just three short weeks to my wedding, life is getting a little chaotic so this is a great reminder to me that life is about so much more than my list of To Dos! Thank you SO very much to the TaskRabbit team for selecting me as the winner. My fiancé Jason and I are planning to go on a Monsters of Rock Cruise in February and were wondering how we’d afford the airfare to Fort Lauderdale with all of the wedding expense! This prize made our metal-loving hearts skip a beat!”

Now remember… Just because our challenge is over doesn’t mean you can stop committing to doing the things you love.  How can we help you Do More. Live More. Be More.? Just let us know. We’re happy to help you on your way to doing the things you love!

Q&A with Leah & Eric – New CEO Announcement

October 12th, 2011

Leah Busque and Eric Grosse answer your burning questions regarding the new CEO announcement. Why the change? Why Eric? And what is Kobe’s future at TaskRabbit? Watch the video to get all the answers.

A New Addition to the TaskRabbit Crew

October 12th, 2011

Today is a big day at TaskRabbit!  We are thrilled to announce that  Eric Grosse will be joining TaskRabbit as CEO. Leah, our founder, will be assuming the role of Chief Product Officer, overseeing the strategy and evolution of the TaskRabbit platform. This is one of the biggest milestones to date for TaskRabbit and we couldn’t be more excited for all the amazing things ahead!

Sean Flynn, our investor from Shasta Ventures, said it best:

“I am so proud of the significant progress that TaskRabbit has achieved since we invested just a few months ago. Leah’s ingenuity and passion for the TaskRabbit product are infectious and something I’ve admired since I first met her. She thinks big and her product vision is inspiring and exciting. When she first approached me about having Eric join as CEO, it was clear that his appointment was the best move for the company. Leah and Eric are the perfect team; with Leah focused on product to ensure an amazing customer experience, and Eric focused on operations and the company’s growth strategy, they will be unstoppable. Eric’s experience, passion and commitment to TaskRabbit’s success make him the perfect person to bring the company to the next level.”

To learn more about Leah’s decision, check out her blog or read our press release.

TaskRabbit Launches in Chicago

September 14th, 2011

The last several months at TaskRabbit have been – for lack of a better word – busy. In June, we were thrilled to launch TaskRabbit in Los Angeles and Orange County, closely followed by the release of our native iPhone and iPod Touch app in July. While most of the world opted for a vacation in August, we decided to launch TaskRabbit in New York City instead. That’s a lot of activity for a three month period, but why stop there? We’ve got some great news: TaskRabbit is coming to Chicago!

You heard right, windy city. TaskRabbit continues its national expansion by launching in your city today, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! Chicago is a hub of innovation, full of brilliant, hard-working, people who will bring the TaskRabbit community a versatile range of skills that will help busy neighbors put a little extra time back in their lives. After taking a look at our city map, as we always do pre-launch, it was more than evident Chicago made the most sense as our next step. Chicagoans are united, proud and determined – an ideal community for TaskRabbit to flourish.

We look forward to bringing Chicago our service platform that has been enhanced from lessons learned in Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orange County, and New York City. We are thrilled to call Chicago home. So if you’re a Chicago resident with too much to do, get started by posting a Task at http://www.TaskRabbit.com.

Happy posting, Chicago!

TaskRabbit Launches in New York City!

August 10th, 2011

It’s been an exciting few months for us at TaskRabbit. On July 28th, we launched our native iPhone and iPod touch app. Back in June, we were thrilled to launch TaskRabbit in Los Angeles and Orange County. We are now extremely excited to announce that TaskRabbit is adding a fifth city to its rapidly growing network. Get ready, New York City! TaskRabbit (and free time) is headed your way!

That’s right, today TaskRabbit launched its service in the Big Apple. TaskRabbit is the ideal solution for New York City. New York is a city full of talented, motivated, and ambitious folks who will bring a diverse range of skills and services to the TaskRabbit Runner community. It’s also a city that never sleeps and is continually on the move; time is a precious commodity everywhere, but especially in New York City. TaskRabbit offers a solution for residents looking to escape the craziness of NYC life. With New York’s notoriously fast paced and bustling lifestyle, it’s really a wonder they’ve survived without us this long!

The demand for TaskRabbit NYC has been overwhelming since we were founded in Boston back in 2009; in fact, it has been our most requested city on our city map.  However, we have deliberately taken our time in expanding our service to NYC and other cities. As pioneers in service networking, we have spent the past 3 years building and honing our state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a proprietary payment platform, robust reputation engine, bidding and messaging system – which are just a few of the pieces required to deliver a seamless user experience.

Most importantly, my main priority over the past three years has been to build a safe and secure platform that connects neighbors to get things done.  We’ve taken the time to learn how to create an amazing user experience across the community, and this has been the driving force behind how we designed TaskRabbit. All of our TaskRabbits go through a rigorous vetting process, including an application, video interview and a background check. We also continually monitor our site activity to ensure all Tasks posted are appropriate (as governed by our community). We have referenced the best practices established by other companies in the industry, such as care.com, and we actively consult with a security expert to ensure the highest standards and policies are in place.  Ensuring an amazing user experience for TaskPosters and TaskRabbits is of the utmost importance, and now we are ready to roll this fantastic experience out to New York City.

We will bring the insights we’ve gleaned from establishing our service in Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Orange County to New York – and we think it’s going to be a perfect fit. So, if you are in New York and have too much to do (that’s probably everybody!), try posting a Task at www.taskrabbit.com. For those of you who would like to be TaskRabbits in New York City, you can get started by applying here.

You can learn more by reading our press release.  Happy posting New York City!

Introducing the Brand New TaskRabbit App for iPhone & iPod Touch!

July 28th, 2011

We’re very excited to announce the launch of our TaskRabbit App for the iPhone and iPod Touch – available now in the App Store!

A couple of months ago, we had a vision. A vision to create an awesome mobile interface that not only gave the user the same quality experience as TaskRabbit.com, but also leveraged the power and simplicity of Apple’s iOS.  We also envisioned an app that didn’t require the user to type a single word – laying more convenience onto our already convenient platform. Today, I’m excited to announce that we delivered on these goals. TaskPosters can now post their Tasks in just a few seconds – without typing a single word. So, for all you busy folks on the go who need help getting things done, I’m proud to say, “There’s an app for that!”

The TaskRabbit App helps busy iPhone and iPod Touch users post Tasks wherever and whenever they need a TaskRabbit’s help – walking down the street, in the car, from the subway, or at their kid’s soccer game. The iPhone’s GPS, camera, and voice recording capabilities make posting and describing Tasks on the TaskRabbit service network super easy. The app has several features that make it really easy and fun to post Tasks. These features include:

Attaching Images to your Task
We all know that a picture is worth a thousand words. You can upload photos to the Task posting so the TaskRabbit knows exactly how they can help you with your project – upload the picture of the perfect sweater you need picked up at the Gap or a pic of your favorite cereal.

Add Audio Recording to your Task
Not so nimble typing on a small screen? Well, now you don’t need to type at all! The TaskRabbit App has built-in voice recording so you can leave detailed instructions for your TaskRabbit.

Geo-Location
Need something picked up or dropped off at a specific address? Don’t sweat it. The app can use geo-location to pinpoint your position, so you don’t have to bother typing in your current address.

Find Common Tasks
As they say, great minds think alike; it’s no different with our TaskPosters. Many of them use TaskRabbits to handle common Tasks, like shopping, pickups and deliveries, and donation runs. Save yourself time and choose from our most common Tasks directly within the app.

Get Suggested Pricing
Setting a Task price just got easier, too. The TaskRabbit App’s pricing histogram helps you understand market rates, and shares exactly how much other TaskPosters are paying for similar Tasks.

This app adds a whole new dimension to TaskRabbit’s service network, and we hope you all enjoy it as much we do. The TaskRabbit App is free, and is available in the App Store on iTunes.

Be sure to leave a review on the App Store and in the comment section below!
